Martins made the appeal in his Eid el-Kabir message in Lagos on Thursday, saying there was a need for Muslims and all Nigerians to use the period to seek for God’s mercy on the country. The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, the Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, has urged Muslims also to use the Eid el-Kabir period to pray for quick and lasting end of insurgency in Nigeria. He urged Muslims to emulate the exemplary life of  Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) who was willing to sacrifice his only son in obedience to divine ordinance. He advised the president to be cautious while negotiating with members of the Boko Haram sect.Martins commended President Muhammadu Buhari for giving the military three months to end insurgency but urged Nigerians not relent in their prayers as all human efforts without prayers were futile.“We are in support of the president exhausting all possible and realistic means of bringing back our girls and ensuring lasting peace in the Northeast.“We urge him to be cautious of the far reaching implications of every such move in view of the sensitive nature of the matter at hand,” Martins said.
