“The narcotic was found on him at the screening hall of the airport during the inward clearance of Qatar Airways flight from Brazil.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had arraigned Aduaka, 37, on a charge of drug trafficking.

A businessman, Christopher Aduaka, who allegedly imported narcotic from Brazil, was on Wednesday in Lagos remanded in Ikoyi Prisons.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court, Lagos, who gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars until the next date of adjournment when the bail application would be heard.

He pleaded not guilty.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Augustine Nwagu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 30 at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.

He said the accused was arrested by NDLEA officials with 80 grammes of cocaine.

Nwagu noted that the offence contravened Section 11 (a) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

“In view of the plea of the accused, I urge my Lord to remand him in prison custody and for a trial date to be given.”

But counsel to the accused, Mr Victor Abana, urged the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms.

He said:“I support my application for bail with a seven-paragraph affidavit and a written address.’’

The case has been adjourned to Sept. 1. (NAN)
