The commission which addressed stakeholders in Lokoja, the Kogi State
capital on Monday, urged prospective registrants to turn out in large
numbers and to take advantage of the exercise to register in order to
vote, adding that a similar stakeholders forum will be held on Thursday,
August 27 at Yenegoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
Ahead of the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States, the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has scheduled
Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), in the states, from 2nd to 7th
September, 2015.
The electoral umpire in a series of tweets via its handle, @inecnigeria
said the five-day exercise will afford an opportunity for three groups
of eligible registrants to register in order to vote.
According to INEC, the eligible registrants will include: “Those who
were eligible but did not register before the 2015 General Elections;
those who are eligible but whose names are not in the Voter’s Register,
and those who have attained the age of eighteen (18) years since the
last Voter Registration exercise.”
