Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare has qualified for the finals of 100m Women’s
event at the ongoing IAAF World championships after finishing second in
her semi-final race behind Jamaican rival, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Fraser-Pryce won Monday’s semi final race with a time of 10.82secs while Okagbare came in second with a time of 10.89secs.
Okagbare, who is the double Commonwealth sprint champion, ran from lane 4 with Fraser-Pryce running from lane six.
Okagbare, who is Nigeria’s brightest medal hopeful in Beijing, qualified
for Monday’s semi-final after winning her first round heat in 11.07
seconds, one hundreth of a second better than Natasha Morrisson from
Jamaica.
