The rebels hailed Francis as “the pope of the poor”, and asked him to
 help organise a day of atonement for all parties involved in the 
Colombian conflict over more than 50 years, so they can take 
responsibility for their actions and vow not to repeat them.<br />

Leftist rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces 
of Colombia has appealed for support from Pope Francis to organise a day
 for peace in Colombia.“We would like to ask you today to keep spreading the goodnews of peace in Colombia,” FARC said in a statement.<br />

On Sunday, the pontiff advocated peace in the South American country 
during his visit to Cuba, where the Colombian government and FARC have 
been holding peace talks for almost three years.<br />

“We cannot afford another failure in this path of peace and 
reconciliation,” Francis said, after a crowded mass on Havana’s 
Revolution Square.</div>
