The Olufon of Ifon, Oba Moruf Magbagbeola, has said some policemen in
his domain are in the habit of divulging privileged information to cult
groups tormenting residents of the community. He said, “I want complain about the activities of some policemen who
divulge privileged information given to them by informants. These
policemen are former cult members when in school and anytime people give
out information about cultists to them, they would inform the
criminals and this is putting the lives of these concerned informants at
risks. The monarch said this in Osogbo on Monday at a forum organised by the
Police Community Relations Committee which had the Inspector General of
Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State,
Mr. Kola Sodipo, and top traditional rulers in the state in attendance.” This happened recently in Sagamu and also in my town. I want you to help us on this.”The monarch appealed to the IG to ensure that the police authorities
carry out thorough security checks on those to be recruited into the
police to prevent cultists and their sympathizers from infiltrating the
police force.The
monarch also said the vigilante groups had no use, saying many of them
had been frustrating the efforts of the police and some of them had
become terrorists in their various communities..The Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, lauded the administration of
Governor Rauf Aregbesola, for supporting the police and other security
agencies in the state in order to make the state safe. The IGP earlier disclosed that not fewer than 435 policemen had lost
their lives in the process of providing security for lives and property
in the country. The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, said
traditional rulers should be more involved in terms of security
arrangements in their respective domains.Aromolaran said involving traditional rulers in security would
complement efforts of security agencies because traditional rulers know
their subjects and their activities

Commissioner of Police Vowed to Stop Cultists and Other Crimes in Edo State.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, on Monday vowed to personally lead street patrols and raids against cultists and other criminals in their various hideouts across the state.‎
Ezike led the special crack squad deployed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, which resulted in the arrest of 56 suspected cultists in Benin, the state capital.
The police commissioner, who assumed office as the new police chief last week, few months after he was deployed to Rivers State command, noted that the prevalence of sophisticated crimes had necessitated the use of high visibility policing.
The new CP spoke during his maiden meeting with Senior Officers, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Departments in Benin, where he also charged them to “sacrifice” their personal comfort for the safety of the general public.‎
‎He identified areas such as Ore-Okada-Benin highway, Benin-Lagos road, Benin-Agbor road and Benin-Oluku-Akure road as points with high incidences of crime and charged the officers to use scientific methods in tackling crimes in their jurisdictions.
“I will personally lead by example. I will participate in patrols, I will participate in raids, I will respond to distresses.
“I encourage other officers to follow suit; we must work with purpose, direction and zeal,”‎ he added.
Ezike listed crime-mapping, intelligence-led policing and inter-agency cooperation and coordination as part of strategies the police would adopt to tackle crime in the state. He also announced the immediate recall of policemen illegally posted to protect individuals as well as the reduction of office personnel by 50 per cent in order to boost field operations.
