Nigeria Celebrate 55th Independence In Better Shape…

SERAP in a statement by its executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni said
 that, “Independence Day should ordinarily be an anniversary to cheer 
and celebrate but this is unfortunately not the case for hundreds of 
victims of bomb blasts and their families in Nigeria. The case of Hope 
Musa from Tabara State who recently died as a result of untreated 
injuries suffered from bomb blast is a sad reminder of the trauma and 
neglect that many victims continue to face.”Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has 
described the 55th anniversary of independence today as “unhappy 
birthday for hundreds of victims of Boko Haram who continue to suffer 
the consequences of the conflict in the Northeast of the country.”The group called on “the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to 
investigate the spending of the over N80 billion (Naira) under the 
Victims Support Funds to ensure transparency and accountability and 
adequate support, assistance, and care for families and victims of Boko 
Haram across the country.” If  Nigeria is to celebrate its 55th independence 
anniversary in better shape than it is today, the victims of bomb blasts
 and other victims of Boko Haram including the internally displaced 
persons need to know that they will never be forgotten in their 
difficult moment.”“Nigerians would like to know how exactly is the over N80 billion 
disbursed, with details on the number of victims and their families that
 have so far benefitted from the funds,” the group said.The group also said that, “It is clear the plight of victims of bomb 
blasts won’t end unless and until the funds are appropriately and 
transparently spent.The group also urges President Buhari to “in conformity with his 
fight against corruption set up a framework that would identify the real
 victims of Boko Haram and facilitate their access to the Victims 
Support Funds to ensure that victims and their families can live in 
dignity, access appropriate medical and other care, and enjoy basic 
necessities of life. The Bomb Victims Association and other stakeholders
 should be fully consulted and involved in the disbursement of any 
funds.”The group also quoted the Bomb Victims Association of Nigeria as 
saying that “Victims are dying needlessly, deaths that are avoidable if 
urgent and continuous medical attentions are provided. We have cases of 
first-degree burns, cornea opacity, compound fractures and orthopedic 
cases, limb amputees, tympanic membrane and osicular bone damages on the
 ear, keloid skins, intensive nerve and tissue injuries and so on, which
 are in need of urgent medical attentions.”<br />

The Nigeria Army on Monday maintained that its warning to saboteurs 
of the ongoing operations in the North-East was not directed to the 
Borno Elders of Thought (BELT), a socio-political group. The Acting Army
 spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in a
 telephone interview in Abuja that the warning was misrepresented by a 
section of the media.He said that the Army command was explicitly clear on the matter and 
did not mention the names of any individual or group in the 
statement. According to Usman, the warning became necessary following 
series of malicious comments made in the social media about the ongoing 
operations.“ Of course, they are not happy with our successes because they are 
benefitting, one way or the other, from the crisis. “These people know 
themselves; we certainly were not referring to the Borno elders as 
contained in some of the media reports. “ So, it is wrong for anybody to
 now infer that we accused the Borno elders of undermining our efforts.“I can categorically tell you that the Nigerian Army has credible 
information that certain individuals and groups are making efforts to 
undermine and discredit the renewed fight against Boko Haram. “Their 
comments in the social media are indicative of this fact and there is no
 doubt as to what their motives are.“This is wrong, I will continue to state as I have stated in our 
previous releases that, we enjoy the support of the elders and those who
 are interested in peace, so the reports are false.’’ Usman insisted 
that the Army would not spare anyone that was bent on frustrating the 
efforts of security agencies in the war against Boko Haram.He said that the Army would act in accordance with the relevant laws,
 if those involved in the alleged sabotage refused to desist from the 
act. “Like I have said, we have warned and the next thing is to act in 
accordance with the laws, if they don’t stop. “The anti-terrorism act is
 there and the punishment for anyone found culpable of acts of terrorism
 will be made to bear the consequences.“Therefore, it is not a question of what are we going to do, anybody 
that is associated with terrorism or related acts and is found guilty 
will face the law.’’ He solicited for the continued support of the 
public to meet the timeline given by President Muhammadu Buhari to end 
Boko haram and restore peace to the North East.NAN recalls that the Army command had alerted the public about some 
individuals and groups, whose activities, it said, was inimical to the 
military operation in the North East.

conflicting reports on the number of Nigerians who died or suffered

Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to urgently account for all Nigerian 
pilgrims in the holy land.He said 
the President was concerned that days after the incident, some Nigerian 
families were still grappling with painful uncertainty over the fate of 
their relatives who traveled to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj.“President
 Buhari has also directed the Hajj Commission, the Ministry of Foreign 
Affairs and the Nigerian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to give all necessary 
assistance to Nigerians who are still receiving treatment for injuries 
suffered in Mina.</span><span style="color: black;">T</span></div>

 Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has assured Nigerians that the president, Muhammadu Buhari administration would not let them down inspite of their high expectations. He gave the assurance on Sunday at the 33rd Holy Ghost Convention of the Sword of the Spirit Ministry, Garden of Victory, Old Ife Road, Ibadan.<br />

 “I believe that by the grace of God, all of those expectations and beyond will be met. So, we’re looking forward to more exciting times and great things for this nation,’’ he said. The vice president said that it was impossible to talk about a policy direction in one year, adding that he was sure of better days ahead.

Also speaking, Oke urged the people to protect the welfare of others, adding that God had always been with the righteous.<br />

“When you answer the call of God, definitely you become a blessing and that blessing will transform to divine enlargement,’’ he said. He said God had promised to use the convention with the theme, “Divine Enlargement, ” as a symbolic season.

He said a lot of work was underway on the economy, especially in the area of agriculture, infrastructure, power and roads. “A lot of work is to be done in the next few months, so we will see a lot,” Osinbajo said.

He said that the convention had provided a divine network for believers of all denominations for rich advancement. Prayer sessions led by notable clerics were held for Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria.

Among those who conducted the session were Rev. Supo Ayokunle, the President, Nigerian Baptist Convention, Prelate Ola
Makinde, Methodist Church Nigeria, and General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, Prophet Samuel Abiara.<br />

 Also present at the event were Chief Moses Adeyemo, Oyo State Deputy Governor, Prof . Isaac Adewole, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, and Prof. Temitope Alonge, the Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital, Ibadan.
