 The acting Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, confirmed the incident in
 a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja
 on Friday.The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of 14 persons, including 
four suicide bombers, in a bomb explosion at Sajeri area of Maiduguri in
 Borno.Usman said that 39 other persons were injured in the explosion which 
occurred near the Ajilari railway crossing on Thursday evening.“Although details of the attack are still sketchy, suffice it to 
state that four Boko Haram terrorists detonated their vests 
simultaneously.According to the statement, security operatives and emergency 
management team have been mobilised to take care of the wounded persons.“Three of the terrorists detonated their bombs in the same area while the fourth detonated in front of a mosque.“It has been confirmed that 14 people have lost their lives, 
including the suicide bombers while 39 others were wounded,’’ the 
statement said.Usman appealed to residents of the metropolis, especially those in 
the affected areas, to remain calm and continue to be vigilant as 
security operatives were in control of the situation.<br />
He assured the public that Boko Haram had been decimated and 
therefore had no capacity to reverse the progress already made in the 
ongoing counter-insurgency operations.In a related development, the Army announced that 80 Boko Haram 
fighters on Thursday surrendered to troops of the Army 7 Division in 
Bama Local Government Area of Borno.The Army said the repentant terrorists comprised commanders, foot soldiers and the terrorists’ food suppliers.It said that the terrorists surrendered as a result of the intense 
heat put on them by joint forces operating in different theaters in the 
North-East.<br />
“The terrorists among whom were commanders, suppliers and foot 
soldiers confirmed to have taken part in several terrorists attacks 
especially on Bama town, Borno, surrendered,’’ the statement said.<br />
The army attributed its success to intense heat and the continuous offensive embarked upon by troops.“It will be recalled that we have repeatedly stated that surrender is the only option available to the insurgents.‘’The Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, in conjunction with other
 security agencies, are totally committed to the achievement of the 
3-month Presidential deadline for the eradication of terrorism in 
Nigeria.‘’Other terrorists are encouraged to also surrender or face total 
annihilation, as the new name of the operation states ‘achievement of

The Nigeria Army on Monday maintained that its warning to saboteurs 
of the ongoing operations in the North-East was not directed to the 
Borno Elders of Thought (BELT), a socio-political group. The Acting Army
 spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in a
 telephone interview in Abuja that the warning was misrepresented by a 
section of the media.He said that the Army command was explicitly clear on the matter and 
did not mention the names of any individual or group in the 
statement. According to Usman, the warning became necessary following 
series of malicious comments made in the social media about the ongoing 
operations.“ Of course, they are not happy with our successes because they are 
benefitting, one way or the other, from the crisis. “These people know 
themselves; we certainly were not referring to the Borno elders as 
contained in some of the media reports. “ So, it is wrong for anybody to
 now infer that we accused the Borno elders of undermining our efforts.“I can categorically tell you that the Nigerian Army has credible 
information that certain individuals and groups are making efforts to 
undermine and discredit the renewed fight against Boko Haram. “Their 
comments in the social media are indicative of this fact and there is no
 doubt as to what their motives are.“This is wrong, I will continue to state as I have stated in our 
previous releases that, we enjoy the support of the elders and those who
 are interested in peace, so the reports are false.’’ Usman insisted 
that the Army would not spare anyone that was bent on frustrating the 
efforts of security agencies in the war against Boko Haram.He said that the Army would act in accordance with the relevant laws,
 if those involved in the alleged sabotage refused to desist from the 
act. “Like I have said, we have warned and the next thing is to act in 
accordance with the laws, if they don’t stop. “The anti-terrorism act is
 there and the punishment for anyone found culpable of acts of terrorism
 will be made to bear the consequences.“Therefore, it is not a question of what are we going to do, anybody 
that is associated with terrorism or related acts and is found guilty 
will face the law.’’ He solicited for the continued support of the 
public to meet the timeline given by President Muhammadu Buhari to end 
Boko haram and restore peace to the North East.NAN recalls that the Army command had alerted the public about some 
individuals and groups, whose activities, it said, was inimical to the 
military operation in the North East.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Monday rekindled the hope of Nigerians on the rescue of the Chibok school girls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in April 2014.

Buratai gave the assurance while fielding questions from newsmen on the sideline of the Chief of Army Staff third quarter conference held at Army Headquarters, Abuja.

He said the safe return of the girls remained a priority of the military in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

He said there were strong indications that the girls were still held within the fringes of the Sambisa forest.

The COAS explained that though the exact location of the girls’ in the forest was yet to be ascertained, the military was mindful of their safety in the bid to secure their release.

He said, “The issue of the Chibok girls is very crucial, we are making all efforts to clear the terrorists and after clearing them we rescue the Chibok girls in one piece

“I believe that the girls must be somewhere within the general area of the forest, but we are not yet sure exactly where they are.

“As soon as this is confirmed, we will attempt to see what we can do to bring them back in one piece, it is very crucial because their safety is very important.

“They could be somewhere else, so we are taking this issue in piecemeal so that we are sure of where we are and how we are going about it and we believe that we can find a solution to it very soon.

“It (rescue) is not an issue of the Army alone, it is a collective issue, the Air Force is there, also working very hard; the Department of State Service is also working very hard on this issue; our main concern is to provide the ground support to ensure that we do it very well.

“By and large there is progress.”

Buratai pledged that the military would continue to work with the mandate of President Muhammadu Buhari to end the insurgency and secure the release of all their captives.

In his reaction to the latest audio message released by the Boko Haram leader, Buratai described it as ‘another desperate move by the group to find relevance.’

He said the group no longer had the capacity to hold any ground or plan coordinated attack on strategic locations or key public facilities.

According to Usman, the Nigerian Army would like to reiterate and renew its commitment to upholding human rights principles and practice. “It has come to our knowledge that some foreign media, Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and some of their Nigerian affiliates are about to start making false claims of human rights violations by the Nigerian Army.<br />

Usman said the plot was to be executed via another false claim of human rights violation by troops in operation. He said the development was unfortunate and capable of frustrating the efforts of the military, while reiterating that troops and their commanders in the frontline would remain focused.<br />

The Nigerian Army says it has uncovered a plan by some foreign media in partnership with collaborators in Nigeria to undermine ongoing operations to end insurgency in the country. This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman.<br />

 “It is clear that these groups and their collaborators are not happy with the progress made in the efforts to solve the security problems bedeviling our nation as manifested in the terrorists’ activities. “The implication of such act is not lost on us as it is capable of thwarting the gains in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, ‘’ he said.<br />

 The acting Army spokesman described the sponsors of the new plot to discredit the army as “unscrupulous, unpatriotic and driven by material and pecuniary gains rather than the wellbeing of Nigerians’’. He said the Nigerian Army had been protecting human rights and would not be party to any breach in Nigeria or during any of the military’s operations.<br />

 He, however, stressed that the army would not give in to antics that were calculated at frustrating ongoing efforts to liberate parts of the North-East plagued by the Boko Haram insurgency. “We would not condone any human rights abuses.

“Where there are allegations of human rights violation by any individual or group, this would be thoroughly investigated and those found guilty would be brought to book in accordance with extant laws.<br />
<br />
 “Therefore, the Nigerian Army would not succumb to blackmail and neither would it be distracted from its determined effort of defending the territorial integrity of our great nation and safeguarding the security of its citizens,’’ Usman said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Nigerian Army under Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai had recently received commendations from notable figures and organisations around the world for the level of professionalism exhibited by troops in the frontline.
