Entertainment maverick, Charlie Boy, on Thursday, urged 
Nigerian youths to imbibe self dependence and hard work as virtues to 
secure the change they so much desired.He gave the advice in an interview in Abuja.He said “it is now 55 years since we gained independence as a nation.
 My serious concern is the youth who are said to be the future leaders. 
They are yet to see life with the attitude of true independence.According to him, after 55 years of independence, Nigeria as a nation
 is still economically and politically dependent, and this is reflecting
 in the youth’s attitude to life.“They still look on government, their parents and Nigeria for 
everything, and the change they so much desire cannot come that way.“Why can’t they look inward, take their future in their hands through hard work and personal development?,’’ he asked.“My advice for every Nigerian youth is to imbibe the ‘Charlie Boy philosophy’ of self dependence.“It is therapeutic for me to share a little bit of my experience with
 the youth, not just as Charlie Boy, but as a friend, a big brother and a
 mentor.The ‘Areafada’, as he was fondly called by young people, recounted 
his experience as someone who worked independently to attain stardom and
 relevance and urged the youth to be self-sustaining.“It had been a very bumpy ride to my present location and the success attained so far.“Many people think that as a son of a former Justice, I did not 
struggle for myself, but it is not true. The only thing my father gave 
me was good education.’’He explained that at a point he was almost abandoned by his father 
because of what he believed was okay by him, and that made him to start 
fending for himself very early.He stressed that “every Nigerian youth can change for the better, by 
taking responsibility for their lives instead of looking up to 
government and parents for everything.’’He said government alone would not be able to create jobs and 
enabling environment for all Nigerians, and therefore urged youths to 
discover and develop their talents. (NAN)

 The acting Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, confirmed the incident in
 a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja
 on Friday.The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of 14 persons, including 
four suicide bombers, in a bomb explosion at Sajeri area of Maiduguri in
 Borno.Usman said that 39 other persons were injured in the explosion which 
occurred near the Ajilari railway crossing on Thursday evening.“Although details of the attack are still sketchy, suffice it to 
state that four Boko Haram terrorists detonated their vests 
simultaneously.According to the statement, security operatives and emergency 
management team have been mobilised to take care of the wounded persons.“Three of the terrorists detonated their bombs in the same area while the fourth detonated in front of a mosque.“It has been confirmed that 14 people have lost their lives, 
including the suicide bombers while 39 others were wounded,’’ the 
statement said.Usman appealed to residents of the metropolis, especially those in 
the affected areas, to remain calm and continue to be vigilant as 
security operatives were in control of the situation.<br />
He assured the public that Boko Haram had been decimated and 
therefore had no capacity to reverse the progress already made in the 
ongoing counter-insurgency operations.In a related development, the Army announced that 80 Boko Haram 
fighters on Thursday surrendered to troops of the Army 7 Division in 
Bama Local Government Area of Borno.The Army said the repentant terrorists comprised commanders, foot soldiers and the terrorists’ food suppliers.It said that the terrorists surrendered as a result of the intense 
heat put on them by joint forces operating in different theaters in the 
North-East.<br />
“The terrorists among whom were commanders, suppliers and foot 
soldiers confirmed to have taken part in several terrorists attacks 
especially on Bama town, Borno, surrendered,’’ the statement said.<br />
The army attributed its success to intense heat and the continuous offensive embarked upon by troops.“It will be recalled that we have repeatedly stated that surrender is the only option available to the insurgents.‘’The Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, in conjunction with other
 security agencies, are totally committed to the achievement of the 
3-month Presidential deadline for the eradication of terrorism in 
Nigeria.‘’Other terrorists are encouraged to also surrender or face total 
annihilation, as the new name of the operation states ‘achievement of 
total peace is a must’,’’ it said. (NAN)</div>

NAN reports that Fayose in a broadcast said there was nothing to celebrate in view of the economic situation in the country.Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state on Thursday cancelled all forms of 
fanfare as well as stadium parades usually held on Independence Day 
celebrations.
“I do not think it is proper to engage in jamboree when it is almost becoming increasingly difficult to pay workers salaries.“The current situation demands sober reflection from all and we cannot 
pretend about this,” Fayose said. He ordered residents to stay at home 
and enjoy the celebration in low-key.
NAN reports that as a result of the governor’s order, the usual 
activities associated with the celebration were absent in most parts of 
Ado-Ekiti on Thursday.
However, there were few places where pockets of activities were organised by individuals or corporate bodies.

In his sermon, the Imam stressed the importance of sacrifice in

Allah to give the country peace, unity and stability.President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday joined Muslims faithful in 
observing Eid-el-kabir prayer at his native home, Daura, Katsina 
State. The prayer was led by the chief Imam of Daura, Sheikh Safiyanu 
Yusuf, at Kofar-Arewa Eid ground around 9.30 a.m.The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq, directed all mosques in the 
emirate to organise special prayer for peace and stability in the 
nation. He prayed to Allah to continue to guide the President to be able
 to lead the country right. ‘’We need to intensify prayer for peace and 
stability in the country, because nothing can be achieved without 
peace,’’ he said.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Buhari and 
the Emir slaughtered their rams after the prayer at the Eid ground. NAN 
also observed that there was adequate security at the Eid ground and the
 prayer ended peacefully.Some of the important personalities who observed the Eid prayer 
include Director, Department of Security Service (DSS), Alhaji Lawal 
Musa Daura, and other prominent sons of the emirate including religious 
and traditional leaders among others.
