But the Senate President, Bukola Saraki,who announces correspondences

 of any other items in the day’s business, could not announce any letter
 from the President during <span data-term="goog_1444051812">Tuesday’s</span> session, indicating that there was no such list at his disposal.Muhammed Buhari failed to meet up with his earlier
promise of submitting list of nominees to the Senate before the end of
September. The president had assured that the list containing the
nominees into ministerial offices would be submitted to the Red Chamber
latest by September 30,for onward screening and possible confirmation.The development prompted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP senators,
through the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, to seek
clarification. Akpabio, PDP, Akwa Ibom North West, raised a point of
order, under matter of urgent importance, to find out why the Senate
President had not announced the president’s letter containing
ministerial nominees.As Saraki attempted to answer Akpabio’s question, Deputy Senate
Leader, Ibn Bala Na’Allah, APC, Kebbi South, raised another point of
order, where he explained that the day was still young, saying since the

 there was still the hope that the president would transmit the list of
ministerial nominees to the Upper Chamber before the close of the

President Buhari and was hiding it from his colleagues.He also said since the day ends by <span data-term="goog_1444051814">12 midnight</span>,
 there was still hope that the list could come before the time. But the

Alaibe in a statement issued in the early hours of Wednesday said the
 decision to withdraw from the contest was in the interest of the party
especially as it face the task of the common challenge of unseating the
PDP in the state come December 5 He said, “It is with all nostalgia that I recall the zeal, enthusiasm
 and hope with which thousands of Bayelsans made a statement in the
direction of change in August, 2015. I can also vividly recall a mental
replay of the occasion wherein a qualitative representation of the
leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress ( APC)
ushered in respected leaders and members from their then party, Peoples
Democratic Party ( PDP) .Former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission NDCC,
Timi Alaibe has withdrawn from the primary of the All Progressives
Congress in Bayelsa State.“That singular event has been phenomenal just as its true meaning and
 direction have all exuded confidence, unity of purpose, cohesion,
collectivism and courage. That day undoubtedly marked the beginning of a
 people’s journey from hopelessness and squandry as enunciated by the
accidental PDP-led ‎government in Bayelsa state to that of quality
leadership that an APC government will represent.“As one of such leaders who took that historic decision, I thought of
 giving a further bite to my burning desire to extricate the state from‎
 abysmal leadership failure. Therefore, my aspiration to be governor
after series of consultations was to rekindle our collective hope and
lift the state beyond its current state of decay under the PDP.“Regardless, I am not oblivious of the fundamental fact that we all
need a virile, united, cohesive and collaborative APC to bring about our
 desires to fruition. Not only do we need this, APC deserves every
sacrifice, including personal interests, to arrive at the envisaged
destination come February, 2016.“This is more so that both as individual leaders and as a party, the
need to avoid the a situation of crisis that the PDP might inadvertently
 reap from cannot be over emphasised.“As a result, having carefully examined the circumstances that have
trailed the Governorship primaries of our great party in Bayelsa state, I
 have come to the conclusion that pushing my governorship mbition
beyond this point carries alongside it some collateral consequences.“Succinctly, two options are available to me. Whereas I am confident
that I have the required support of my admirers and supporters‎ as well
as the needed backing of Bayelsans to govern them, the hurdles set on
the way of this noble project are seemingly temptous and capable of
overheating the APC in Bayelsa.“In another vein, the virtuous path to take is that virtuous one in
which personal interest are sacrificed for the common good,whether for
the APC or the state in general. This is the path I chose in the light
of the prevailing circumstances. I therefore withdraw from the
governorship primary contest.“This decision is taken in the interest of our party especially as we
 face the task of the common challenge‎ of unseating the PDP in the
state come December 5.”

The Coalition of Northern Youths Association CNYA has stated that with
the the current crisis bedevilling the Senate President which culminated
 in his arraignment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal last week, he is no
longer morally fit to occupy the office if the president and should step
 down for a more qualified Senator to preside over the affairs of the
Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.The statement signed by the national coordinator of the group, Alhaji
 Abubakar Mohammed stated that the current crisis bedevilling the Senate
 President with his eventual arraignment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal
 last week has raised a moral issues about his fitness to preside.At the end of its meeting in Kaduna at the weekend, the group noted that it has
resolved to mobilise its members and senators to rally round Senator
Barnabas Gemade to become the next Senate President in view of the
corruption charges involving the Senate President, Senator Bukola
Saraki.According to the group “we strongly believe that Senator Saraki has
no moral right to preside over the affairs of the Senate based on the
allegations levelled against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau, and he
cannot be facing trial and at the same time presiding over the affairs
of the Senate. As such the best option left for him now, if he has
conscience is to resign honourably and pave way for a new leadership in
the senate’.‘This is the only way out of the quagmire, considering the fact that
Senator Gemade has all it takes to superintend over the Senate’. The group pointed out that the whole world is watching Nigeria over
the Sarakigate, “hence we call on the Senate President to do the needful
 by resigning without delay”It added added that in order not to create a leadership vacuum in the
 Senate and allow the opposition party, the PDP to capitalise on this,
“we appeal to the previous contenders for the seat of Senate President
such as Senators Ahmed Lawan and George Akume to jettison their ambition
 and support Senator Barnabas Gemade to become the next Senate
President.Justifying it’s choice of Senator Gemade, the group said it believed
that Senator Gemade is going to entrench peace, unity and legislative
decorum in the senate.“We make bold to state that as a former minister, former Chairman of
the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and a two term Senator now in his third
 term, he has the capacity to steer the ship of the senate and forge
unity among the senators from both the All Progressive Congress APC and
the Peoples Democratic Party PDP”.‘We call on all APC Senators to throw away any toga of loyalty to any
 person and go for the best candidate which to us at this particular
point in time is Senator Barnabas Gemade’ the group said. They called on the National Executives of the All Progressive
Congress APC to see reason with their position and commence serious
consultations among party stakeholders to ensure that the exit of
Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President will not spell doom for the
party.<br />

The Opposition party Will Not Stop....

The All Progressives Congress has advised the people of Osun State to brace up for austerity measures which became the only way out of the economic crisis the state is facing.

The Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of the APC in Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, gave this advice in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Saturday while congratulating the labour unions and state government for finally resolving the salary impasse.

The APC attributed the economic crisis in the country to the alleged misrule of Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government.

He said, “This will take a lot of sacrifice and belt tightening to fix. Every citizen must be prepared to experience one form‎ of austerity or the other in the mean time, if we are to expeditiously overcome the damage done by the PDP to the nation’s economy. Something has to give way for better things to happen.

“It is not ‎ the government that will bear the brunt alone, the people should be prepared to share in making sacrifices, so that we can build a future for our children.”

The ruling party blamed the PDP for the criticisms which have trailed the inability of the state to pay its workers for many months, saying the opposition party orchestrated the attacks against the government to discredit it.

He said, “Of the number of states in the country where this same crisis persisted, it was only in Osun that a satanic twist was orchestrated by the PDP to magnify the sad event. This is because desperate politicians murderously seeking power will stop at nothing to exploit people’s misfortune for their selfish political ambition.”

But the opposition party has said they would not stop criticising the alleged maladministration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration.

The Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy of the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, when contacted by our correspondent said the criticisms against Aregbesola was more severe than in other states because the governor was the only one involved in reckless spending with impunity.The PDP said the ruling party’s advice was a confirmation that Aregbesola was planning to retrench workers and to impose heavy taxes on the people.

He said, “Rather than prove us wrong, the APC has just corroborated our position that it has lost focus and can not bring smiles to the faces of the people but hardship.

“It is sad that a government that promised workers good welfare packages during campaign would withhold their salaries for nine months, and when given bailout by the FG, would fix it in a bank and embark on series of delay tactics to delay payment.

“APC in other South West states do not purchase helicopter for the pleasure of their governor like we have in Osun, neither do they travel to Cuba forthrightly like Aregbesola does. If Osun APC expects us to keep quiet in the face of oppression, embezzlement, fraud, maladministration and other vices, they got it wrong.”

APC Condemned Wilson’s Abduction.

14:51:00 Unknown 0

The All Progressive Congress, Bayelsa State chapter, has asked the Peoples Democratic Party to look inwards for the perpetrators of kidnap incidents ravaging the state.

The party spoke in Yenagoa on Thursday following an allegation of the PDP Youth Vanguard, that APC was responsible for the Wednesday’s abduction of Fyneman Wilson, the Special Adviser to Governor Seriake Dickson on Political Matters.

The APC condemned Wilson’s abduction and sympathised with his family.

However, the party alleged that notorious kidnappers were not just members of the PDP but were also holding political offices in Government House.

The state Secretary of the APC, Mr. Marlin Daniel, argued that the kidnapping of Wilson must have arisen from the statements credited to former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Dickson’s formal declaration for a second term.

Describing Jonathan as a huge disappointment to Nigeria and Bayelsa, Daniel said the former President foreclosed the ambitions of other PDP aspirants by undemocratically asking persons who bought forms in PDP to forget their aspirations and support Dickson.He said the provocative statement of Jonathan might have compelled the supporters of the aggrieved aspirants to engage in criminal and violent protest.

He said the APC was too busy preparing for its primary election and too responsible to engage in criminality.

Daniel said the abducted victim is politically infinitesimal to be considered a threat to the march by the APC to win the December 5 governorship election.

It Is Mandatory For Every Lawmakers to Follow The Example of President Buhari and Osinbajo Before inauguration.

10:13:00 Unknown 0

However, Senators and members of the House of Representatives who spoke to Daily Trust yesterday said it was not mandatory to go public after declaring their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Our correspondents report that there is a growing demand by the public for the legislators and even state governors to follow the example of the president and his deputy.Federal legislators yesterday declined to follow the example set by President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo by making public disclosure of their assets. Buhari and Osinbajo last week made their assets public in line with their electioneering campaign promises. While Buhari had less than N30m in his account, Osinbajo had N94m and 900,000 Dollars in his bank accounts.<br />
 Meanwhile, only one senator out of 469 federal legislators has gone public with his asset declaration.

Senator Shehu Sani(Kaduna central, APC) on Friday declared as his asset four residential houses in Kaduna, two uncompleted office complexes, two inherited family house in kurfi, katsina state and Minna Niger state and one residential house in Abuja. He also declared that he has N22 million in his Bank account. Listed on his form were two wives and six children. Sani, an activist turned politician, is now having problems with many of his colleagues for putting them on the spotlight.

In an interview, Sani said: “Some of my colleagues are not happy over it but I don’t care because I did it as President Buhari has set a moral standard for all elected office holders and secondly, there is need for every one of us to come clean as regard to the suspicion and distrust between the government and the governed.

“The constitution makes it optional for elected office holders. If you so wish you can make it public or you do it secretly but the secret declaration has been abused over the years.

“Public declaration does not make one saint but it affords the public to know the worth of their leaders. I urge all lawmakers in Nigeria to toe this line of honour. “It’s better to be pelted for disclosing than to be cursed for not disclosing,” he said in a phone interview.

When contacted on phone, the spokesperson of the Senate, Dino Melaye said Senators cannot be compelled to make their asset public.

“Making asset declaration public is personal and Senators can only make their public individually. I can speak for Senators on this. I cannot compel any Senator to declare his or asset but it is a great thing that people are making their asset public and I support it. Watch out for my own too because there is nothing to hide,” he said.

Similarly, the spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Sani Zorro said that the public declaration of assets by individual lawmaker is optional.

He said individual members had even before their swearing in on June 9 disclosed their assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau in line with constitutional requirement.

Asked if the lawmakers would follow the example of President Buhari and Osinbajo by, Zorro said it is purely an individual choice to do that.

“We have done that to the Code of Conduct Bureau. In fact, it was mandatory for every member to do that before inauguration. All those that were sworn in on June 9 filled a form in which they disclosed their assets to the bureau as required by the constitution.

“But making it public is an optional thing. However, we’ll welcome any member that comes out publicly to declare their assets. It will be in line with transparency and accountability in governance. It will deepen our democracy,” Zorro said. Also speaking, Rep Aminu Saleh Jaji, of Kauran Namoda/Birnin Magaji federal constituency of Zamfara state said: “It’s not
the mere declaration that is the issue here, but this public declaration is more for the executive, president and his deputy, governor and his deputy.

“But as lawmakers, you won’t be sworn-in unless you declare your assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau and a certificate in that regard is issued to you. And all the members did that,” he said.

For his part, Rep Abdulrazak Saad Namdas said: “We have fulfilled our constitutional requirement. People who want to make it public can do that ... It’s an optional thing to tell the world.”
Some lawmakers contacted on the issue
declined comment.

Among the lawmakers are 14 former governors namely; Senate President Bukola Saraki, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Godswill Akpabio, Jonah Jang, Abdullahi Adamu, Theodore Orji, Aliyu Wamakko, Sam Egwu, Danjuma Goje, Adamu Aliero, George Akume, Joshua Dariye, Bukar Abba Ibrahim and Ahmed Sani Yarima.

Buhari’s aAti-corruption Will Come Under The Light in Kogi State.

18:15:00 Unknown 0

Prince Audu is standing trial over sundry corruption charges, ranging from money laundering to embezzlement of public funds.
In a chat with Vanguard in Anyigba, Adejoh said the APC, under the leadership of President Mujammadu Buhari, shouldn’t have allowed someone whose integrity was tainted to contest under his party.<br />
<br />
Human rights activist, Mr. Emmanuel Adejoh, has assured the nation that Buhari’s anti-corruption stance would soon come under the light in Kogi State with the emergence of Prince Abubakar Audu as the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress, ahead of the November 21 governorship election in the state.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
 He said: “The essence of the APC screening of candidates for the election was supposed to ensure that only credible people are allowed to contest the governorship poll.

‘’I am not a politician but as a citizen of this state, I am waiting for the day Buhari will stand on the podium to lift the hand of Prince Audu who has been accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of corrupt practices.<br />
<br />
 “Though Audu has not been convicted, many people in the state are already insinuating that Audu is desperate about the governorship in order to alter the course of justice. But I think he has the constitutional right to contest the election”.

Adejoh called on political parties in the country to stop parading corrupt individuals as candidates for political offices, saying leaders must be people who only see the good of all.<br />
<br />
 Meanwhile, a political pressure group, Team Kogi 2016, has challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, not to be intimidated by the recent emergence of Prince Abubakar Audu as the governorship candidate of APC in Kogi State.

The group in a statement signed by Comrade Sam Yinka, said it was imperative for the anti-graft commission to substantiate its charges against the former governor in order to give the fight against corruption in the country a new vista.<br />
<br />
 “In the days of Jonathan, political allies were said to be shielded from anti-graft agencies. President Buhari must know that the main reason Nigerians voted for him was his anti-corruption credentials. He must not sacrifice this hope on a platter of politics,” the statement read.

One Naira Can Never Be Equal With One Dollar Said Dan Nwanyanwu.

The pioneer Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, says Nigerians should face the reality that President Muhammadu Buhari will not meet many of his campaign promises including his pledge to make the naira and dollar to be at par.<br />
<br />
Nwanyanwu said rather than deny that Buhari never made 100-day promises, the APC-led Federal Government should swing into action and start governing Nigeria instead of only probing the past administration. He said, “The APC and its presidential candidate made a lot of promises during the campaigns.<br />
<br />
Nwanyanwu, who said he is no longer involved in partisan politics, stated this during a chat on Channels Television on Wednesday.

The former labour leader said there was no way the All Progressives Congress would be able to give N5,000 to unemployed youths across the country as promised.<br />
<br />
We knew that some of these promises were not realisable. For example, there is no way one naira will be equal to one dollar. I know that without being an economist. There is no way anyone will be paid N5,000 every month. That is also not possible.<br />
<br />
 “But let us put all those campaign promises aside. We know our country. And we know where we are. And that is why I said that the APC as a political party should realise that the campaigns are over. They should stop defending the indefensible as regards whether they made certain promises or not. You do not learn how to write with your left hand at an old age.<br />
<br />
“We have passed that stage, a President has been elected, let us encourage him and be patient with him and then look at the other areas he has to kick-start rather than probing every day. Yes, we are eager to get our stolen money back but at the same time, we want the government to start. What are you doing about unemployment and power?”

<b> </b>“It is unprecedented that within two years of being registered as a
party, we have won the general elections, it is unprecedented that
within two years of being registered as a party, we have twenty two (22)
 governors elected under the platform of the party, it is also
unprecedented that within two years of our registration, we are
controlling the two chambers of the National Assembly, these are the
things we considered as giant stride achievements that begged for call
to celebrate our great party on its second year as a political party.<br />

<b>All is set for the second anniversary celebration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.</b><br />
<br />
The chairman of the anniversary committee and National Organizing
Secretary of the Party, Senator Osita Izunaso in an interview with
Journalists said that the event is billed to take place end if this
month.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a><br /><br />
In apparent mood of self adulation, Izunaso stated that it was
remarkable to have recorded unprecedented feats of having 22 governors,
controlling the two chambers of the National Assembly and above all
producing the President of the country within two years of establishing
the party.<br />
<br />
According to him, programmes have been lined up, one of which would
series of lectures by the former Nigeria’s permanent representatives to
the United Nations, professor Ibrahim Gambari to make the anniversary
eventful.<br />
<br />
“It’s already two years by the 31st of July this year, the APC was
registered by INEC July 31st 2013, last year when we wanted to celebrate
 our one year anniversary, we got tied up with preparations towards
registration of our membership, towards conducting congresses for our
members across the federation, national convention as well as the party
primaries for the 2015 general elections which we won by the grace of
God.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
“The event to celebrate our party at two will hold by the end of this
month (August) here in Abuja and we are getting world class resource
persons to speak to us on the role of a political party on emerging
government and to as well talk about our change mantra, what to do to
effect the change. We shall hear talks on the change our party is
championing, is it change of altitude or otherwise, this are the aspects
 we will be looking at.<br />
<br />
“We have secured the date and the guest speakers are fine tuning ahead
of it, I can say authoritatively that one of the guest speakers will be
Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Nigeria’s permanent representatives to the
United Nations. We are also finalising the arrangements to get speakers
outside the country”, he said.<br />
<br />
The APC scribe also stated that “we also want to use the avenue for
internal soul search to let ourselves know that the task ahead is more
than the one behind.”
